Indulge in a slice of heaven with our healthy Apple Pie French Toast – a warm, cinnamon-kissed breakfast delight that's a cozy blend of rich apple pie and fluffy toast, topped with a dollop of whipped cream.

There are few things as comforting as the aromatic scent of apple pie wafting through the kitchen on a crisp morning. Apple pie is a classic American dessert, but what if we told you that you could enjoy those same delicious flavors in a healthier breakfast? We are excited to introduce the Healthy Apple Pie French Toast, which is a delectable twist on the classic recipe that not only tantalizes your taste buds but also nourishes your body. In this article, we will walk you through a simple and wholesome recipe that will satisfy your cravings without compromising your health.

Why This is Healthy Breakfast?

  • Low-Carb bread: Choosing a low-carbohydrate bread will not only increase fiber content but also keep calories low, allowing you to enjoy your weekend brunch while reducing calorie intake to aid weight loss.

  • Apples: Apples are a good source of essential nutrients like dietary fiber, vitamin C, and various antioxidants. The fiber in apples helps lower cholesterol levels, and the antioxidants may reduce the risk of heart disease.

  • Coconut Oil: A healthier cooking oil alternative that's high in healthy fats. Coconut oil contains predominantly healthy saturated fats, including medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which can be easily digested and provide a quick source of energy. Some research suggests that coconut oil may have a neutral or even positive impact on heart health when used in moderation, though it's important to balance this with a healthy diet.

  • Walnuts and other nuts: A source of healthy fats and protein. Walnuts are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid. Consuming walnuts can help reduce bad cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and decrease the risk of heart disease. The omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants in walnuts have been linked to improved cognitive function and may help reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.

  • Unsweetened Almond Milk: Almond milk is a great alternative to cow's milk if you have problems digesting lactose, but it's also a great way to reduce calories. Althought, if you do not have issues with lactose, I would recommend using cow's milk over a sweetened version of nut milk for the additional protein.

Tips for Making Apple Pie French Toast.

  • My favorite apples to bake with are Fuji, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Pink Lady. You can use one variety or a mix of varieties.

  • If you want to reduce your calorie intake and lose weight, try using a low-carb bread like Schmidt 647. However, if you're not worried about calories, Brioche is a great option.
