If you are anything like me, easy and quick recipes are a must! I have two young children who are very active in sports, so spending my entire day in the kitchen is not something I can do. And if you have been following me for any time, you will know that most of my recipes take less than 15 minutes to prepare. This recipe is no different!

Literally the best tuna salad recipe!

When I think of tuna salad, it brings up fond memories of my childhood. In fact, tuna salad sandwiches and egg salad were two recipes that my mom would make that I never refused to eat. I love the simplicity of this classic tuna salad sandwich because it only requires a few ingredients; a can of tuna, boiled eggs, a little red onion, a pickle spear, mayonnaise, the mustard of your choice and herbs! The best thing about this recipe is that it's fairly customizable to the ingredients in your house and your own personal taste.

What is the best way to prepare the tuna salad sandwich?

The best way to prepare any sandwich is to add bacon! Bacon just makes life better! The second most important ingredient is choosing a delicious bread. For most of my sandwich recipes, I use Dave's Killer Bread, but use whichever bread you love. I have always enjoyed a hearty whole grain or multigrain bread with my tuna salad.

The flavors seem to compliment each other very well. If you want to fancy this sandwich up, you can add:

  • Avocado

  • Tomatoes

  • Lettuce

  • Bacon or bacon bites

  • Dill or pickle juice

  • Pickled onions

How do I prepare the hard boiled eggs?

There are dozens of techniques used to make hard boiled eggs but I have stuck with the same one I learned since I was a kid. It's tried and true!

  • Bring 4 - 6 cups of water to rolling boil. it should be enough to submerge the eggs.

  • Add 1 tbsp of white vinegar to the boiling water and add the eggs

  • Boil for 3 1/2 minutes

  • Remove from the heat, cover and let sit for 14 minutes.

  • Remove eggs from the pot and add to an ice bath.

If you properly store the classic tuna salad, then it should last 3 to 4 days. Put the salad in an airtight container to help the prevention of bacteria growth. Keep the container sealed in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Can I make this classic tuna salad recipe hot?

Absolutely! In fact, the picture in this post is my classic tuna salad with egg as a tuna melt. You can easily add it to bread, place a few slices of cheese and put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Are there other ways to prepare the classic tuna salad?

Absolutely! This classic tuna salad is perfect as a side, on a sandwich, in a salad or by itself. For me, the best way to eat my classic tuna salad is on a sandwich with a side of more tuna salad. Like I mentioned, this is one of those classic recipes that I cannot get enough of.

So instead of belaboring this, let's get a mixing!
