What ingredients do I need to make these 5-Ingredient Chocolate Protein Pancakes?

  1. Pancake Mix: Any pancake mix will do, but I use Krusteaz. If you want gluten-free, swap in your favorite gluten-free version.

  2. Protein Powder: I would recommend finding a Whey/Casein blend. In my experience, they tend to cook the best.

  3. Greek Yogurt: Choose your favorite vanilla Greek yogurt. I use Oikos Triple Zero because it has the perfect consistency

  4. Eggs: I always say, fat is flavor! Eggs are rich in vitamin D and protein, as well as good cholesterol due to their healthy fats.

  5. Baking Supplies: Unsweetened cocoa powder

  6. Optional toppings: Nuts N' More peanut butter spread, whipped cream, sf chocolate chips

Why do I love these 5-Ingredient Chocolate Protein Pancakes?

Simply put, I am a pancake-a-holic! Both my wife and I grew up eating pancakes and bacon most of our childhoods. Inevitably, I would have to find an easy healthy pancake recipe the whole family would enjoy. And this recipe delivers. The best thing about these protein-packed healthy pancakes is their versatility. I recommend adding chocolate chips to the recipe if you are addicted to chocolate like my wife and son. Or if you are similar to myself, you can add in Nuts N' More peanut butter spread. Regardless of what you add into this recipe, you will love it!

Are these 5-Ingredient Chocolate Protein Pancakes weight loss friendly?

They certainly are! These easy 5-ingredient healthy chocolate pancakes are loaded with over 50g of protein and will keep you full for hours. This gigantic stack of pancakes is so filling, that my wife can only finish about a half stack. But if you are a volume eater like myself, then this recipe will certainly deliver. If your goal is to be healthy and fit, then relying heavily on easy protein recipes like recipes will help you achieve your goals.

What kind of protein powder should I use for these 5-Ingredient Chocolate Protein Pancakes?

The protein powder is a very important part of this recipe, so using the right one is key. I personally would recommend a whey/casein blend. In my years of cooking with protein powders, these tend to provide the best results. The casein protein will help add the creaminess. The brand I recommend the most is PEScience, and I am not even sponsored by them. You can use their vanilla or chocolate flavors for this recipe.

Why is protein important for breakfast?

It is no secret in the fitness industry that protein is a critical component of your diet. As described by the National Library of Medicine, every cell in the human body contains protein. The basic structure of protein is a chain of amino acids. You need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and make new ones. Protein is also important for growth and development in children, teens, and pregnant women.

The saying goes, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day". And while that isn't technically true, having a filling breakfast will help you make better decisions throughout the rest of the day. If you look at studies, they consistently rate protein and fiber at the macronutrients that fill you up the most.

Are there any substitutions for these 5-Ingredient Chocolate Protein Pancakes?

There are definitely things you can do. Some of them I have not tried, but it is always good to add your own little spin on the recipe:

  1. All-Purpose Flour: You can use a 1:1 gluten-free alternative if you want, but be careful about making other substitutions like oat flour. The cake-like texture comes from the flour, so something like an oat flour or almond flour might take that away.

  2. Plant Based Protein Powder: If digesting whey/milk is difficult for you, then using your favorite plant based protein will work (at least PEScience brand).

Can you store or meal prep with this recipe?

While I doubt there will be leftovers because these are amazing! Keep them in an airtight container to preserve the fresh fluffiness, and stick them in the fridge. Enjoy within 1-2 days.
