Quick high protein granola parfaits, perfect for that on-the-go breakfast.
Are you working long hours? Do you have kids? Or are you constantly on-the-go? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you probably don't have much time for breakfast, especially during the week. However, with a little preparation and a few ingredients, you can make a healthy, low-calorie yogurt parfait that is filling and helps you maintain your healthy lifestyle.
What is a parfait?
While it may sound complicated, a parfait is simply yogurt with some fruit and other toppings.
What is the best yogurt for parfaits?
There is not "best" type of yogurt, but what I would recommend is picking a yogurt that is high in protein, like Greek Yogurt, and low in sugar. One of the reasons I recommend this combination is that protein is one of the most satiating macronutrients, which can help you stay full for longer periods of time and can also help you lose weight. My two favorite brands are Two Good plain Greek yogurt and Oikos Triple Zero vanilla Greek yogurt. Both of these are less than 110 calories per serving and have 17g of protein.
Are parfaits good for weight loss?
Depending on what you put in your yogurt parfait, it can make for a great low calorie healthy breakfast that can support a weight loss regime. Depending what your calorie allowance is, you can easily make a very high protein parfait for less than 300 calories with over 20g of protein. Personally, I find healthy low calorie yogurt parfait's to be a great tool for my weight loss journey. The Lemon Kitchen Greek yogurt parfaits tend to be well balanced and loaded with nutrients.
Are yogurt parfaits good for meal prep?
Absolutely! I have wide-mouth bell mason jars and you can easily prep the yogurt in them. I would recommend putting the granola in a separate container until you use it, otherwise, it will get soggy. I would also recommend using fresh fruit and adding it the morning you plan to it the healthy granola parfait.
What other ingredients can you use?
The possibilities are endless! I always recommend using some seasonal favorites for fruit and some healthy fats such as a nut butter or some fresh coconut. My personal go-to is Nut's N More High Protein for adding some extra protein and some additional fats. Additionally, I will also add in a fruit, such as: blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi and apples with cinnamon. Don't forget about adding more flavor with spices, such as cinnamon and pumpkin spice.
Can you add protein powder?
Absolutely. Adding protein powder to a healthy granola yogurt parfait is a good way to get in some additional protein and add some new flavors. One of my personal favorites is PEScience Cake Pop, but adding in vanilla or another favorite powder will work fine. I generally recommend whey or a whey/casein mix.
